Already Here: A Mother’s Contemplation of George Floyd’s Death

June 06, 2021 by gina carroll

I am already here, Son.

I am here for you, as always.

I have been watching.

So proud of how far you’ve come.

So clear about your motivations,

your perfections and triumphs,

your imperfections and challenges.

I, always watchful, saw this coming,

not because this was your failure,

but because you have always been

unsafe, endangered, hunted, dismissed.

This is murder, Son. You have been killed

in broad daylight, under the gaze of many.

It is why I am standing by. It is why,

even before you call out to me,

I am already calling out to you.

Take my hand, Love.

We will go together.

I will show the way to comfort,

to belonging,

to love beyond all love.

Love is why I am here, Dear One.

Love is how you have come

full circle back to me.

I am your mother,

the one who only ever

saw you as whole,

the entire Man—

gentle, strong, kind,

sensitive, loving and loyal-

The face of God.

I am here, Sweetheart.

I am here for you, as always.

Take my hand.

We will go together.
